God is Sovereign (Part 2)
God is in control of all things in this universe. When we say control, it means God works all things according to his will, thereby accomplishing his purposes. No human can thwart His purposes. God can never lose control, as He is completely in charge of His will and what needs to be fulfilled. He has an everlasting plan for history and nature, and his plans are effectual. That is the sole reason why we can trust and rely on him. When we completely put our trust in God, He, who is in control of everything, is faithful to never leave us nor forsake us.
The Lordship of God personifies his authority. As He is the Lord, His authority is absolute. Every creation comes under the authority of God, whether it be angels, men, or even Satan. All authority belongs to God, as He is the source of all creation. Psalms 103:19 says – “The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.” With this confidence, we can humbly submit to the authority of God as He rules with justice and righteousness. The providence of God is another feature that contends the sovereignty of God. He governs the affairs of humans and works through the natural order of things. The beauty of divine providence is that divine sovereignty and human responsibility go hand in hand, thereby accomplishing the will of God.
Finally, we can rejoice in the fact that God is sovereign in our salvation. Philippians 1:6 says: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” His promises never fail, and He is the ultimate author and finisher of our faith. God, who started the good work of salvation, will complete it by glorifying us. As He is sovereign, He has complete control over every event that happens in our lives. Remember that the storms of this life never happen by chance, but by the foreknowledge of God. He permits those events in our lives to mold us and conform us to the image of Christ. So let the absolute truth of the sovereignty of God provide us with comfort and help us yield to His supreme authority in true worship.
